Foreign Direct Investment and HRD: Case Studies for South Asia, SAARC

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The main objectives of the study were; identification of FDI role in socio-economic development and FDI challenges faced and opportunities available; analysis of trends in FDI inflows and role of human resource development (HRD) in attracting FDI; suggestion on policies to promote two way relationship between FDI and HRD and serve as a guideline for policymakers.

 

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

Carried out overview of FDI in South Asia and identified role of FDI in socioeconomic development of the SAARC region. Analyzed FDI trends in South Asia and reviewed comparative position of FDI inflow in the South Asian Region vis-à-vis other regions. Analyzed factors contributing to low FDI in South Asia. Analyzed the role of human capital in attracting FDI. Analyzed skill gaps in each SAARC Member State effecting FDI inflow. Reviewed SAARC Member States policies and institutional capacities to attract FDI. Proposed a Plan of Action to promote FDI in South Asia.
